Had a lovely sleep at Beachcroft B&B at Seaton. Seaton is a lovely town. I indulged in a cooked breakfast this morning and it was delicious. Certainly didn't need any lunch. Went for another walk along the Seaton esplanade before I left - beautiful morning here.
The bloody seagulls had target practice on my car overnight

You can't really see the full effect in the pic, but the seagulls are double the size of our birds and they certainly drop a load!!! It covered the whole bonnet and the boot, and it was only my car out of all the cars in the street!!! Discerning seagulls!
My host, Steve, at Seaton recommended a stop at Exeter to see the Quay and the Cathedral. The trip over to Exeter was lovely, but I have to admit I'm not all that fussed with driving in the bigger cities. This time I parked in the car park near the Quay and it was relatively OK, but following the GPS in the city can be a bit stressful, when you're trying to listen, watch and avoid other cars!!!!
Anyway, I walked down to the quay and had a coffee there... Here's a few pics of the Quay

Next I had to climb up a very big hill to get to the Cathedral. It was a nice Cathedral and I used the audio guide, but I have to admit there's a lot of similarities between Cathedrals I've visited! One interesting thing about Exeter Cathedral, was that is was bombed in WW2 and parts of it had to be rebuilt.
Here's a few pics again...

So, I was glad to leave Exeter and my next stop was Plymouth. And the drive was rather pleasant through the hills of Devon on the A386, with Dartmoor National Park very close. It was a 2 lane highway and easy driving.
But it wouldn't be a proper blog without some story about my GPS. And I can't blame Gaby Garmin this time, as I was using Google Maps.
I had plans of going to see the Maritime Museum there, but I knew I had to get some supplies so I set my Google Maps for Tescos (big supermarket) which I thought was relatively close to the freeway. Anyway, it was the drive from hell again... I kept taking the wrong turn off and ending up on the wrong road...It was so hard to take the right exit when there are 3 in front of you and the instructions are going by the road number. But good old Google was very patient and kept offering alternatives. I think it took me over half and hour, when it should have been 10 minutes or so.... Reminded me of my horror journey through Nantes in France on my last trip.
Anyway I got there eventually and bought some provisions as I'm staying in a little self-contained chalet right on top of the cliff in Whitsands Bay in Cornwall. I'm here for 3 nights which is nice to pause and take a breath!
The roads that lead to this place were often very narrow, but at least I've had some practice at driving on these kinds of road now!
Here's some pics of my new home... it's just beautiful. Simple little accommodation, but all I need. Bought a roast chook and some vegies and of course a little wine to help me sleep!!!!

Home for the next 3 days |
So, I'm just sitting here watching the sun go down as I type this up. How lucky am I to be having such an adventure!
BTW here's a map of where I'm staying

Bloody seagulls ... can't help themselves. Now breathe in the sea breeze and unwind. Your little chalet looks divine. Enjoy !! Love Megs x
ReplyDeleteBreathing.... breathing. It certainly is a beautiful spot. 😀
DeleteMoira, your experience with the seagulls reminds me of a similar one I had in Newcastle (NSW). I parked the car outside a beach side cafe where I went to have lunch with a friend (a burger & milkshake which she assured me was the appropriate lunch to have at a beachside cafe in Newcastle!). When we returned to the car it was completely spray-painted in seagull shit and like yours, mine was the only car in a long line of parked cars to receive this treatment. To add to the humour of the moment, it was one of those Bayswater hire cars with "No Birds" written on the side!! We had to laugh. One to the birds. Haha.
ReplyDeleteYour cabin on the hill looks idyllic. Enjoy gazing out to sea . . .
Haha 😆 You always have good stories Katie . Loved that one. 😄😄
DeleteSuch a beautiful spot Moira and the cabin looks perfect. Now time to wind down from the stresses of Gaby and driving.
ReplyDeleteYes I plan to take a breather for a few days.its nice not to have to repack the case for a change.
