Port Isaac - Tintagel - The Cotswolds

Sadly it was time to leave Port Isaac, after a wonderful stay there.
Happily I was able to  take the shuttle up to the car park as it was drizzling rain and I wasn't looking forward to climbing the hill with my case on the way back there!

One last picture of a Doc Martin scene was to  be had on the way out .... this was at Port Gaverne, which is less than a kilometre away
Police Station
My next intention was to go Tintagel Castle which was less than 30 mins away.  GMaps got me there, but rather too efficiently, as she had me driving down the very steep path to the cliff, which was only for special vehicles. Had to retreat rather rapidly there....

However, the weather was against this visit. I parked the car and rugged up but it was raining quite heavily and the wind was biting. The actual walk to the castle was significant and I just started when I changed my mind.... I put it in the too hard basket and this is what I did instead...

Alternative to a windy castle walk!
Had a bit of a look around the town but it was too wet and windy... Here's a few pics..

Anyway, once I was back in the warmth of the car, I went back past the entrance to the Castle path and they had put up the Closed sign, so I could see I had made a wise choice!
Here's what it might have looked like on a nice day! (from Google images)

The rest of the day was spent driving on the motorway. I spent most of the time on the A30 and the M5 and it was relatively easy driving with a least 2 or 3 lanes most of the way.

Tonight I'm staying on the edge of the Cotswolds at a hotel called Hatton Court in Upton St Leonards. It's a lovely old building and off the main road a bit which is good. I had a half a thought about popping over to Gloucester for a quick look, but by the time I arrived here and found my room, I decided to stay put for the evening. I went and found the bar and had a nice beer instead!!!

Here's a few pics...

My room
Actually it's half the price of my Port Isaac room and twice as big. And it is lovely.... But I did like The Slipway with its authentic ancient feel and the the view across the sea.

So, that's it for tonight... short and sweet.... Booked in for dinner later, then off to bed. Then tomorrow I'm off to Leicester to meet up with my second cousin Josephine to try and explore some of the relevant places in my Grandmother's history, as she came from Leicester.

Here's today's map...

The Final Episode!

As I was being driven home from the airport last night I was just composing my last post in my head - you know, the usual stuff..... flights...
