Ringwood - Lyme Regis - Seaton

Me at Lyme Regis
The pace has really died down today and that's a  welcome change. All I had to do today was to drive to Seaton, and I had in my mind to go via Lyme Regis, as that was recommended to me, so that's all I did!!!

My motel overnight was very basic but it was comfy and clean. They didn't do breakfast, so when I checked out, I went over the road to that same pub and had some lovely scrambled eggs on toast - and of course I took my Vegemite!!!

As I was only doing a very simple route today, I decided to forgive Gaby Garmin and let her take me there, because I figured I was going to be out in the country anyway and she couldn't do too much damage! Hmmmmmm... I'll get back to that...

Here's a map of my route today... I've been meaning to include one every day, but I forget! You might like to click on it to enlarge it!

Anyway, Gaby Garmin got me safely to Lyme Regis, although we were stuck for nearly 20 mins at some roadworks... but that wasn't her fault.

Lyme Regis is a different sort of town... it's bloody hilly and I had to walk up and down a few times because as with most English towns, it's really hard to get a car park anywhere. Not only that, the streets were so narrow that 2 cars could not always pass each other so there was a lot of pulling over to let the other cars through... the footpaths were narrow too, so even the pedestrians were doing it!!!
Here's a few pics to give you an idea of what it looks like...

Actually they don't really show the hills, but trust me they were there!!!! Good for the aerobic fitness. I noticed they had a defibrillator in the car park!!!

Anyway had a nice coffee there and nearly every shop sold pasties, so I succumbed and bought one. Big mistake!!! They were really onion pies with a touch of meat somewhere... Sadly I couldn't eat it. It was a good idea at the time!!!

Lyme Regis is situated at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, so called because of the wealth of fossils found here.

Anyway, it was time to move onto Seaton... only 15 mins away according to Google Maps.
But my trust in Gaby Garmin was betrayed, because once again she took me via a very obscure (but definitely pretty!) route. She took me across the ridge at the back of the town and the views were just lovely, so I partially forgave her. Actually Dorset and Devon are very pretty places and the nearer I came to the coast, the prettier it became.

After I emerged from those back roads, I pulled into a wayside stop and put Google maps back into action, and they took straight to my B&B.
This is my B&B and that's my car in the foreground!

The beach is a minute walk at the top of this street and has a wonderful promenade right along the beach.

Seaton beach - more pebbles!
So I went for a walk right to the end of the promenade. We have been blessed with lovely weather today. 15 degrees and the sun came out!!! Actually I have been very lucky with the weather so far... touching wood!

Seaton seems a lovely gentle place. So different to Brighton and all it's crowds, and even Lyme Regis seemed crowded. But Seaton has space and time .... actually I was looking for someone to take a pic of me as I walked along the promenade but I think the average age f the walkers would be in the 80s!!! There were seats every few minutes and you could see lots of oldies just sitting! I think the good weather might have brought them all out...???? Nice to experience though. Interesting catching glimpses of the conversations as I passed... all about their aches and pains and nobody comes to visit them - they're all too busy! Life is basically the same wherever we go!

Had a bad dose of hay fever today... must be the Spring in the air! Took a Claryatyne and that didn't touch it, so I've just dosed up on the Nasonex... that's calmed it down a  bit!!!  I'm sure you all want to know about how my nose is coping!!!

Going to walk up to the pub for tea tonight. Been recommended by the owners, so hope it's OK. That Mandeville Red I had last night did the trick. Slept very soundly. Might try it again tonight!!!!

So that's it for today folks. Nice gentle day.... just what I needed. Off to Cornwall tomorrow for 3 nights in the same place! Bliss!!!!!

  3. Such a lovely little place Moira. Your trip is bringing back so many memories of a similar one Pat and I did some years back. We have friends who live in Dorset so we have thoroughly explored this area.

  4. Dorset and Devon are certainly beautiful counties. It’s a shame when you’re driving you can’t really look at the scenery because it certainly is picturesque.

The Final Episode!

As I was being driven home from the airport last night I was just composing my last post in my head - you know, the usual stuff..... flights...
