Well, I've learnt few things today.
1. Dubai is very big! As I was being driven to the airport this morning, I was amazed at the size of the multitude of buildings. And so many of them seemed to be hotels! Google tells me the population of Dubai is 3.03 million but it certainly seems to have an enormous CBD. It is also quite polluted. There's like a dull browny pollution haze hanging over the city all the time.

2. The next thing I learned was that the A380 aircraft is a bit nicer than the 777 that I traveled on from Perth. But, hey, me no complain. They both got me here ok... Thank you Jesus!!!
3. London traffic is something else! I suppose I'm a bit spoiled living in Perth, and I regularly hear my friends and family telling me how bad the traffic is getting in Melbourne. But it took us two and a half hours to drive the 60 miles from Heathrow to Brighton. Once we got past Gatwick airport it eased off a bit but it was horrendous at the start. I had a lovely lady driver who was originally from Portugal and she was a very good driver too. Once again... Thank you Jesus!!!!
4. Everyone in Brighton thinks it's the middle of summer because the sun is out!!! They were all sitting outside having drinks and dinner. personally, I went inside because the wind was a little chilly. I think it's 14 degrees here today! Also I have had 2 decent flat whites since I left home. That's a bonus!
Look at the pebbles... actually they're mini rocks!!! |

5. Brighton is lovely. There's a beautiful promenade right along the foreshore and I went for a walk after I arrived about 5.30 pm. It's still light now as I write this at 7.30 pm.

So that's it for me tonight. Feeling a bit weary. Eight hours on the plane followed by 2 and a half in the car...
I pick up my hire car tomorrow so the real adventure begins!!!!
It’s so exciting going on holiday with you. Brighton is a lovely place but I just couldn’t get used to the pebbles on the beach, imagine putting your towel down and trying to lie on that comfortably. Good job you didn’t have to drive through London, the traffic is horrific. Looking forward to your next instalment.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying Col. Yep, wouldn’t fancy sunbathing there.

ReplyDeleteSo easy to have adventures when you're out of your comfort zone. Each day brings new challenges. Hope Nan is able to read some of my adventures.
DeleteAhh this brings back some memories. An English beach, pebbles (or rocks), fairground, fairyfloss and old ladies in stockings.
ReplyDeleteReminds me a bit of Little Britain and “we’re just a couple of ladies” đŸ˜€
