Sure, it's a soft day in Lahinch...!! The rain has come, as it had to, and the Atlantic is a bit more wild this afternoon...

I've had a very pleasant day today, just moving along at a slow-ish pace. Had a few nice adventures along the way, but more about that later...
First, let me return to last night where I caught up with my family.
|
Three generations of Curtins - Ellen, Nora and Marie |
As mentioned briefly in the last post, one branch of the Curtin family migrated from Lahinch to Victoria, Australia in the late 1800s, and these were my Dad's ancestors. The farm they migrated from is still in the Curtin family and Nora and her son, Sean still live there and Sean works the farm. Marie (Nora's daughter) is married to Pat and they have 2 children - Ellen and Patrick - and they live just down the road.

Their farm is situated about 10 minutes out of Lahinch at a district called Tullygarvan. They have majestic views of the ocean from their land... it is in an amazing spot... To think this is Curtin land!!!!

The whole family always welcome me with open arms... it is such a delight to come here.....
Marie is gaining gold stars by the minute, because last night she did my washing!!!!! Yee haa!!! Just as well, because I was down to my last items this morning!!!

And of course, the weather yesterday was just delightful...!

If you look really carefully you can see little Patrick helping gather up the weeds! |
So, that was my lovely evening spent with my family on the family farm.
Next stop was dinner at The Shamrock Inn
This is my favourite eating place in Lahinch. It does my kind of food. I ordered a small serve of the roast and it was enough to feed 3 people! Mashed potatoes and vegies... yum!!!!
Then I had the best sleep - even though this building is on the main road, it was really quiet all night.
This morning after breakfast, I just wandered around the main street. Went into the shops and bought a few things, then went and had a coffee.

Went up the Church and lit more candles for all my family and friends

Went down the beach for a while... tide was out this morning - this was taken before the rain came..

My next plan was to go visit a secret location just about half an hour out of town.... do you recognize this place...???
Of course, it's Fr Ted's house - or at least where it was filmed. I love that show!!! I was talking to one of the ladies in the shops this morning and I told her I was going out there, and she gave me a free fridge magnet!!!! She said a lot of it was filmed in this area and the actors all stayed here. She said the man who played Father Jack was just a lovely man, who remembered her name from year to year. And she said Dougal was lovely too! Wasn't too impressed with Fr Ted though (God rest his soul!)
By the time I arrive back in town, it was raining pretty solidly, so any plans of going for walk along the beach etc were put on hold. But, I had another mission to fulfill...
All my golfing friends would realise that Lahinch is a world famous golf course, and the Irish Open is being held here next year. So I went to get some pics. I had to do them pretty quickly as the rain was really coming down now....

Having had a lovely meal at Ballyliffen Golf Club, I thought I might as well go in and have a look here too... Very nice!!!

Cheers from Lahinch Golf Club! |
So that was my day, wandering around Lahinch. Marie had plans this evening to take me up to the Cliffs of Moher by a back route away from the tourists, which would have been lovely, but it's just too wet at the moment. Maybe another day....
The Irish weather can make or break your plans a bit, but I have absolutely no cause for complaint!
How superb to catch up with your relatives ... and get your washing done as well!! Hope your cold is settling. Did you manage to pick up another 12 pack of Panadol?
ReplyDeleteTake care.
There is power in Family!!! It’s always good to catch up and I receive such a warm welcome here. And the washing is just a big bonus!!!! Xx cold is still going strong... need to go and get more Panadol today!!!! It’s all settled a bit now though. Xxx
DeleteSam and I were reading your wanderings in the waiting room at the medical centre this morning (yes, I know, I said to him "Oh no, we've become one of those old couples who go to the doctor together"!) and Sam said "Moira's been gone a really long time hasn't she?" And I thought YES you have!! I'm sure you don't want to be focussing on the end of this journey but how much longer will you be away?? In the meantime, keep enjoying one day at a time . . .
ReplyDeleteYes it has been a while. This time next week I will be on the plane coming home. I’ve been very lucky to have had such a long time away. I’ve loved every minute of it, but have to admit my heart is slowly turning for home now. But I still have a few days to enjoy and will do my best to make the most of them!!! Hope you 2 are ok???? Xx
DeletePat was very impressed to see so many different types of cow on the one farm and noted they were very healthy looking. Good farmers those Curtins. Hope your cold gets better before your flight home xx
ReplyDeleteI didnt even notice the types of cows. Obviously the farming genes werent passed on!!!! Xx
